But deeply it saddens me that a life has been destroyed by the criminals because they have no fear of authorities or anyone. Educated citizens are trying hard to make a life for themselves and illiterate goons/gvars and politicians are living life like kings. Administration has become so hollow that few days ago an IPS in Haryana committed suicide because he was* being harassed by his own peers. A second-year MBBS student from Odisha was gang-raped near a private medical college in West Bengal's Durgapur on Friday night.

Officials said the student, who is from Jaleswar in Odisha and studies at the IQ City Medical College in Durgapur's Shivapur area, had gone out with a male friend when some men accosted them near the gate of the college around 8.30 pm on Friday, took the woman to a wooded area, and raped her. The 23-year-old's father said her friend fled and the family suspects he is also involved.  

In the police complaint, the survivor's father said her friend "misled her and took her to a vacant place under false pretexts". He said the attackers also snatched his daughter's mobile phone and took Rs 5,000 from her.

There is no rehabilitation for these animals in prison. The laws are not correct. Bring in capital punishment for these heinous pos. Quick justice needs to be done. Why do we need such animals as a part of society. What are they going to contribute? The representative of TMC from my place is a girl who allegedly, yes allegedly, graduated college. She doesn't know the 'p' of politics. Totally uneducated and unqualified for this important role. And she gets paid sooo much money for doing basically nothing. 

I'm from a semi urban fairly literate neighbourhood, and let me tell you, nobody likes her. Nobody likes Mamata Banerjee. Even I have never voted for her. Nor has anyone from my family. I know she would have gotten out of the position by now, if it wasn't for so much corruption. From where i am, where my grandparents are, as far as i know, nobody votes for her. 
How would my state recover from this. I don't know. I feel hopeless.

I agree. Everyone should be free (and safe) to go anywhere at any time. Just because it's night doesn't make insecurity the default. The state should make necessary arrangements, like CCTVs and police patrolling.

I agree with your post - the statement is maybe correct as an advice but wrong politically because of the position she holds.

Also, I would like to add that I watched the video of her speech - the complete one and not any clipped version. It seems to me she said why was the victim out at 12:30 am (although I have read in the news and also several posts claimed that the girl went out at approximately 8:30 pm) as a jab at the medical college authorities. For example I stay in the hostel of a reputed government institute and we are not allowed to go out or come in after 11 pm. If a student is staying at the hostel and something happens to him/her, the institute is blamed so they take such decisions. Another point which I read was that some users claimed that the incident took place inside the campus, but then I read in the news that the incident took place 1.5 km from the campus. Honestly, we should let the police do it's job before arriving at such conclusions.
